Q: Welcome back to Tinted! Catch us up on what’s inspiring you right now when it comes to colors and painting projects.

A: Hi! Thanks for having me. Right now, I’m really inspired by vivid and vibrant colored spaces. I’m always and forever a fan of a deep moody vibe, but there’s something about bold, in-your-face color that’s doing it for me right now. Particularly lilacs, yellows, and robin’s egg blue.

Q: Since we last connected, you were featured on the cover of House Beautiful’s Color Issue — big congrats on that! What kind of impact has this made?

A: OMG! Thank you so much! I’m still in shock about it, honestly. It was such a wonderful surprise. It’s made a big impact and brought along some big opportunities I can’t wait to share. 🙂

Q: You recently used our 2023 Color of the Year, Redend Point, in your gorgeous entryway refresh project. Can you tell us a little about how that hue worked for that space?

A: It was the perfect warm neutral to provide some contrast to our otherwise very moody space. Redend Point offers a soft place for the eye to land amongst the deeper, more moody colors in the rest of the space. I also like that the contrast allows this area to really stand out.

Q: As you continue to grow and evolve as a designer, do you find your thinking and inspiration around color also evolving?

A: Not really! Color has always been at the foundation of everything I do and every project I take on as a designer. I’ve always been inspired by so many different things when it comes to color: travel, food, fashion, nature, etc. I think this will always be the case.

Q: You’ve been showing your readers “how to live large in limited space” — now that the bungalow has been almost fully transformed with SG Style, where do you see your DIY journey taking you next?

A: My wife and I are actually preparing for our next chapter since our son will be graduating from high school in two years! We have our sights set on navigating a new city maybe, and likely downsizing even more!! So, I have a feeling I’ll still be doing lots of small space living design and projects. 🙂

Q: What are you looking forward to the most in the upcoming year?

A: I have lots of work travel coming up in 2023 so I’m really looking forward to that. I’m going to places I’ve never been, and I’m really excited about what impact it’s going to have on inspiring my design projects!!

Q: What colors have been speaking most loudly to you lately?

A: Lilac and red – together! It’s truly such a dynamic color combo and it’s my very favorite. Each color brings out the best in the other. I’m currently loving Novel Lilac SW 6836, Magical SW 6829, and Positive Red SW 6871.
