I am torn between Shoji White and White Duck. I have a lot of mahogany wood and travertine and what to lighten the house and take out some of the yellow. I also have a lot of molding that is a contrasting color. Would anew gray or perfect griege work with White Duck? Thanks!

Hi Adelle, yes Dover White SW 6385 has quite a lot of yellow in it. You can paint over this with either Pure White SW 7005 or Extra White SW 7006 to get the look you want.

Hi Karen! Pure White SW 7005 is a soft, clean white. It is not stark at all; compare Pure White to High Reflective White SW 7757 and you will be able to see the softness and warmth in Pure White.
Hello, we’re repainting the house and currently have dover white as the trim/door color. Hello Nancy! We cannot stress enough how important it is to not judge a color by how it looks online, colors will look different on every screen. A color chip is the best standard to really “see” a color. Eider White SW 7014 is a light greige and has some gray in it. Off-white usually refers to a color with some yellow in it – that would not work with your palette. If Eider White looks too gray check out Shoji White SW 7042 or Aesthetic White SW 7035.

Hi Chelle, There is no way to “tone down” the red in a cherry floor. Your best course of action would be to complement the existing flooring. Creamy whites have yellow in them and are not the best choice next to cherry flooring. Check out these warm but neutral whites instead. Look at:

Hi! We are a new build – I would like to paint everything (upper cabinets, trim, walls) all one color. We will have polished gray concrete floors, some exposed warm woods, dark brown leather couch and navy bottom cabinets in kitchen. Going for modern rustic ish. We have an open floor plan – 9 ft ceilings in kitchen and 10 in living room. Since we will have quartz countertops and gray floors, I am looking for a warm white, but without yellows. I’ve been leaning toward alabaster, but am worried because yea know… it’s a whole house color haha. We have a good bit of windows, but most windows will be covered from front and back porch. Thoughts? I like alabaster and this article made me think of pure white. Super open to other options.
Warm whites can only be made by adding a drop of yellow to them. Alabaster SW 7008 is the lightest of our warm whites so that would work for you. Also, take a look at Greek Villa SW 7551, it is very similar to Alabaster but is just a bit brighter. It is always best to look at color in your lighting.
Looking for a color that would look soft on exterior ad be complimented by a clean white trim.
Was considering white duck, alabaster or agreeable gray for exterior. Pure white on trim, Dorian gray or silver mist for *shutters – possibly pavestone if using white duck or alabaster( *only two in front – it’s a cottage) and silver mist on door.

Our home was built in the 80s and it’s full of oak – oak kitchen cabinets, oak molding, oak beams, and it’s extremely open to the 2nd floor. It has very high ceilings in the main area. We changed our countertops to a honed black granite and our floors will be black rectified porcelain tile (resembles burnt wood). I’m Currently building a house, I really want a white that’s not bright and crisp for my exterior color on hardy plank … more of an off white, but I’m afraid of it looking yellow. Warmer whites will have either a drop of yellow or red – that is what makes them warm. Pairing a crisp, clean white like Extra White SW 7006 with Pearly White SW 7009 will allow both your trim and walls to “pop”.

I had agreeable gray lightened 6%-now an LRV of 66- should I just look for a whole new color.? One of the other colors I was considering was gossamer veil.
The ceiling is alabaster and trim is creamy in the entire house- it appears white – I do not currently see any yellow.
Hi Dorene, Agreeable Gray has an LRV of 66 – doing a lighter custom version of it at 6% (which will not be noticeable to the human eye) does not change the LRV at all. Did you want a lighter color and are you keeping the trim?
I bought new interior doors in the Greek Villa and want to paint the door casings and walls in the same Greek Villa. Do I accent the window casings and/or baseboards in a whiter white? And if so, what white do you suggest. I have also read on just doing one color for baseboards, walls, ceilings in the same ‘white’ and just changing the paint to a semi-gloss. Our home has high cathedral ceilings and bedrooms in the 8ft flat ceilings.
Hi Debra! If your doors are Greek Villa you would want to paint all of the architectural trim (baseboards/windows etc.) in the same color. You could definitely do a monochromatic palette with Greek Villa SW 7551 and you are correct; paint the trim in a semi-gloss sheen and paint walls and ceilings in a flat sheen.

I painted my fireplace Pure White. I’m looking for a white for my walls (living room) but I wanted to see a slight contrast. I’m having difficulty because all the whites seem to look like pure white and no subtle pop. I don’t want grey or cream for the walls, i wanted white. What color white would give somewhat of a difference with pure white while still being classified as a white color? Fireplace is also in a satin finish. What finish would be nice for the walls?
In order for the eye to perceive a different color, you would need to pick a color at least two steps darker than SW 7005 Pure White – that color would no longer be considered a white. You may want to use SW 7005 Pure White in a flat finish as that would help differentiate it a little bit from the fireplace. If you try to put any other “white” on your walls, it may look like you tried to match your fireplace and failed.
I’m renovating a tiny (42 sf) bathroom in an old house; gets very little natural light. I’m installing what I thought was pure-white marble hex floor tile (to be grouted in gray), but when the tile arrived, I realized it has a warm (slightly yellowish) undertone. (Wall tile, fixtures & wood trim will be white-white.) I had planned to use a barely- off-white paint with a slight pink undertone (Ben Moore Atrium White) on the walls/ceiling, but don’t think that’s going to look good with the yellowish undertone in floor. Does Sherwin Williams have a barely off-white that wd work better? Westhighland White, maybe? Something else? Thanks!!!!

My house is SW 7746 rushing river with an extra white trim. The extra white trim is too overwhelming for the size of my house, plus I have a lot of trim boards. I want to stay with a white (not a beige) as my window casings are white, but would like something not so bright. Sherwin Williams suggests Shoji White but I’m afraid it’s to cream/beige and would not be a white like my window trim. Is it? What other white trim would go with rushing river? How about Alabaster or Greek Villa or maybe another?
Yes, Alabaster SW 7008 and Greek Villa SW 7551 would both be great options; however, they both have yellow in them and if you want a “true” white, check out Pure White SW 7005. Which white would be good for the walls? We don’t want yellow undertones. We were thinking of also using Shadow Mountain for trim color. Do you recommend a dark trim? Our renovation style is Mountain Modern.

We are considering painting our cabinets Pepper Corn. What white would coordinate for the walls? We do not want a yellow undertone. We are also considering Pepper Corn for the trim in the rest of the house. Do you recommend a dark trim? Our style is mountain modern.

Looking at using shoji for exterior. Using possible black windows, black roof, and black door. Do I use a trim color or just paint trim shoji as well ? Much help appreciated

What a wonderful service – thanks! We are remodeling a large room with floor-to-ceiling windows that face west – in Texas – so summer sun is a bear. The floor will be manufactured wood that looks like oak with an undertone of red (the red undertone because it will be adjacent to mahogany-colored tile). The furniture will include antique oak pieces, a cobalt blue couch, a dark brown couch, and a cobalt blue and white chair. What shade of white will look crisp, but at the same time not blind us when that sun is streaming through the west-facing, floor-to-ceiling windows? What wood trim color? Thanks!
Since you want a white on the wall, consider using Extra White SW 7006 on your trim to differentiate the wall from the trim. Whites that would work with what you want are:

We want a warm, moody, patinad and lived in feel for our main living space. Floors are European white oak. We are thinking of Shiitaki for kitchen cabinets. Island will be white oak stained darker than floors. Fireplace is European limestone with overgrout for an old world look. Ceiling is currently Alabaster. Because the windows are black on the inside we would like the walls and trim to be same color, different sheen. Thinking of Shoji White or Alabaster. Do you prefer one over the other or do you have another recommendation? Thank you!
